The People, Places & Things Defining the Local Look

FULL CIRCLE
While poking around a small antiques shop in Florence, Italy, one winter day, local designers Beth Webb and Joanne Sims looked up to see the most spectacular ceiling fan circling above—despite the bone-chilling cold. In an instant, they knew they had to have the ARIA VENTILATORI fan. And a day later, they knew all of their design colleagues would feel exactly the same way. After many return trips to Florence, several long lunches with their new Italian artisan friends and the expert guidance of a wonderful man named Bruno—not to mention an Italian angel or two—they've brought the hand-crafted line of ceiling fans to the States. You could say that things have, indeed, come full circle. aria-ventilatori.com; piercemartin.com

CRYSTAL CONNECTION
BACCARAT, the fabled crystal company, has a new home in Atlanta at OwenLawrence and continues to redefine crystal with cutting-edge introductions. Although we're pining for one of their eye-popping black crystal chandeliers, we're also gaga over the news that the store has the exclusive on Baccarat's Rencontre Collection by Jaime Hayon, which is simply surreal. MODERN CLASSICISTS
Everything old is new again—and out to prove it is the young members group of the Southeast Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America. From sketching at the Cyclorama to watercolor classes at Oakland Cemetery, this next wave of local CLASSICISTS is reviving the lost arts of classical traditions. Lest you think they're stuck in the past, yet another class—“Why it Pays to Go Green”—proves they have one foot solidly in the 21st century. classicist-se.org/young

D
TOUCH IT, FEEL IT
We first met CAMILLA DAVID in May at the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center, and we've been swooning over her eponymous fabric collection ever since. Designers can take a look at the collection, rich in embroidery, at Travis & Company, where it has found a great home. camilladavidtextiles.com, Travis & Company, (404) 237-5079.

E
GREEN IS GOOD
ECO-CONSCIOUS DESIGN continues to challenge Atlantans to make smarter choices about their homes. From events like the Go Green Expo and environmentally friendly showhouses to furniture stores like Eco-Bella, Verde Home and the EcoEmporium (reclaimed wood bed, shown)—dedicated to making green design stylish—there's no denying that green's influence on local style is here to stay.

F
SO CHIC
The local FASHION and home design communities continue to collide, and the result is an environment that fosters collaboration and creativity between the two disciplines. Jewelry designer Mark Edge inspires with his unique creations and, amid a shopping environment where you have to pry us out of our Barcelona chairs to make us leave, shop owner Sid Mashburn has turned the local fashion scene upside down with his modern takes on classic men's clothing. Meanwhile, Cinda Boomershine, of TV home-makeover fame, rolls onward with her burgeoning handbag collection, Cinda B., that celebrities continue to snatch up. markedge.com; sidmashburn.com; cindab.com
