Kick Back
Edward’s Pipe & Cigar is one of Buckhead’s ultimate gentlemen’s hangouts. The shop’s low-key vibe has long been a draw for its discerning clientele. And just one step inside the humidor—a climate-controlled tobacco storage room—gets you a whiff of the finest tinned and loose tobaccos in the region. Proprietor Stan Arnold’s gregarious nature is tempered by that of stoic pastor-turned-shopkeeper Creig Kelly, both of whom boast an abiding knowledge of their wares and are apt to educate you in estate pipes or invite you to settle into a rocking chair for the afternoon. High Flying
If you think travel by private plane is a luxury reserved for a privileged few, think again. Just up the road in Walhalla, South Carolina, homegrown manufacturer Just AirCraft sells light sport aircraft at affordable rates—averaging $80,000 for completed, custom models. These “backcountry” or “bush” planes, which take five months to build, can be flown—doors on or off—for 600 miles or six hours before needing a refuel. And licensed owners need only a short airstrip (600-foot minimum) over land or water for takeoffs and landings, which makes zipping off to your second home—by land or by sea—a breezy adventure.
