When Amy Howard and her husband, Gene, began making custom screens in their Memphis garage back in 1991, they surely had little idea of the success story that would unfold. It wasn't long before those first decorative screens gave way to an entire line of highly sought-after furniture. Today, the Amy Howard Collection—interpretations of fine antiques well-suited to modern lifestyles—is represented in showrooms from coast to coast. And that now includes Atlanta.

The pieces are inspired by a wide variety of periods. You're just as likely to find chests that harken back to the glamorous '30s and '40s as you are to discover exquisite armoires with hand-painted chinoiserie, tables that clearly have Art Deco roots as well as seating that seems to have come straight out of 17th-century France, 18th-century England, even Tuscany. Howard leaves no corner of the world unturned and no detail unattended. Each piece in the extensive line is hand-built, then goes on to other craftsmen for painting, gilding and waxing—hand-applied finishes that are all but unmatched.

Howard has seemingly thought of everything, right down to the last candlestick; the collection includes gilded sconces as well as exquisitely painted 30-inch-tall torcheres.

Even four-legged family members can luxuriate in Howard's designs. Her pet beds, such as the grand “Taj Mahal,” are the pinnacle of pampering, precisely like every other piece in the line.
