SERENITY. COMFORT. SIMPLICITY.
Times have changed, and the editors recognize that. More than ever before, our homes have become a top priority. “This whole crisis is like a big spring housecleaning—both moral and physical,” Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld was famously quoted in The New York Times in January about our current state of affairs. “...Bling is over. Red carpet covered with rhinestones is out. I call it ‘the new modesty.'” This month, we're translating that ideology to the home. Instead of buying an entire suite of furniture, how about choosing the nicest reading chair you can find and having it upholstered in the most spectacular fabric you can afford? Or, if your bedroom is important to you, how about choosing two of the nicest down pillows you can find instead of stacks of decorative ones that reach for the ceiling? We call it “decorating with a purpose.” And never forget: even the smallest of home improvement projects—like fresh, new paint colors—can make big differences on everything from your home's value to your own state of mind. So, whether you're spending $10, $100, $1,000, $10,000, $100,000 or $1,000,000 (you can get a lot of house for your money these days!), surround yourself only with what you truly, madly, deeply love. We think Lagerfeld would approve.

Whether your style is contemporary (like these Rita Carson Guest-designed rooms, top right and bottom left) or more traditional (like this Angela Bromenschenkel-designed space, bottom right) creating a peaceful home isn't about doing what's in or what's out—it's about encapsulating what's important to you.
