When the long, dark nights of winter roll around, my evenings aren’t complete without my favorite Leontine Linens, a chilled bottle of San Pellegrino at my bedside and reruns of Project Runway on the tube. So, I decided to peek under the covers of some of the city’s top tastemakers to find out what they’re sleeping with, what they’re sleeping on and what they can’t sleep without.
SALLY DORSEY
“My bed is an antique that Herb, my husband—now, but not at the time—bought for me on our first trip to Bali. In the ‘old days’ of the mid-90s it was difficult to organize small shipments from Bali. We ended up importing antiques from Indonesia and owning an antiques shop on Miami Circle—all to get my beautiful antique Balinese bed to Atlanta! —Dorsey is a local philanthropist, fundraiser and interior designer
KEVIN KNAUS
“I am pretty easygoing; I will only sleep on white sheets, and I usually don’t sleep on anything less than 1,000-thread-count cotton. But my pillows are Jonathan Adler and my other bedding is from The Waterford Collection, so I can drink from glasses that match my bed!” —Knaus is the vice president of global fashion and trend director of Material World; MaterialWorld.com
ANDREA MOATTAR
“My favorite bedding is the Saratoga sheeting by Matouk. It is 500-thread-count white Egyptian cotton with two rows of contrasting chocolate tape. Very soft and stylish.” —Moattar is an executive with her family’s rug company, Moattar Ltd.; Moattar.com
CHRISTINE EISNER
“I adore my Simmons mattress, so I bought the exact same one for our beach house. That way, we have the same sleep there as at home in Atlanta. My pillow is from Tempurpedic. After trying one out on my friend Amy’s living room floor during coffee at a dinner party—don’t ask me how the conversation got to beds and pillows!—I decided it was the way to go.” —Eisner is a designer, writer and lifestyle consultant. Her firm is Lifestyle Design; LifestyleDesign.org
DAVID YORK
“I love my Duxiana mattress. It is actually my second one in less than five years—no fault of Duxiana. Buck, my redbone coonhound rescue, decided to chew a huge hole in the corner of the old one.” —York is the owner of Barking Hound Village; BarkingHoundVillage.com
| INSIDE STORY Just nine months ago you would have found me answering the question “What are you sleeping on?” with a hearty laugh and a finger crooked at my bed with its vintage Barbie flannel sheets from my daughter’s younger years. But after some sprucing up, I now have a beaded silk chiffon dust ruffle with a tulle underskirt and a velvet coverlet. Daughter Anabelle has her own new damask duvet in five shades of blue, with shams culled from some Old World Weavers remnants. We insist that grandmother Jojo, who has made all of our divine bedding, be tethered to her Singer, taking only vital breaks for hygiene and nourishment. After all, our beds must be fab-u-lous! |
