I knew art would play an important role in my life from the time I was a small child. My first acquisition was while I was in college, paying a whopping $25 for a piece from my university’s gallery. That initial leap has since become a passion that has grown stronger (and a bit more expensive) over the years. Although my collection has become far more focused in recent years, it’s still not as fine-tuned as it should be, consisting of pieces by artists who are minimalist or conceptual, as well as by those who work in African Diaspora, clay and photography. Although at times the collection seems disparate, there’s almost always a common thread to the works. A large majority of the pieces are hard-edged, and I am fascinated with the act of drawing and the drawn line. At the same time, I believe that works of art should evoke emotion; I am interested in artists’ vocabularies and the dialogues they create. The following artists are those whose works I have collected personally or would consider buying, and those that I have assisted clients in purchasing. These artists, who either work in Atlanta or are affiliated with local galleries, are some of the most exciting around. Pamola Powell Studios, (404) 607-9972
